The Stars

Hume, Orji and Sahni

Iain Hume’s equalizer gave Kerala Blasters long-awaited point in the Indian Super League. The Canadian was the standout performer in the match, showing his highest order of skills and ability. The Kerala striker skillfully controlled a difficult high ball and by playing one-two passes with Milagres Gonsalves, netted the ball with ease. This marked Hume’s second goal in 3 games for Kerala Blasters.

Penn Orji showed his experience and talent against Atletico de Kolkata. The versatile midfielder held a defensive role with Mehtab and was decent in his outing. Orji became victim of harsh challenges whenever he moved ahead with the ball during Kerala’s attacks. During counter-attacks, the Blasters’s skipper showcased great speed and composure.

Baljit Sahni was undoubtedly the best player for Atletico de Kolkata. He opened the scoring for the home side by firing past David James after Borja had set up the goal. The former JCT forward could have doubled his tally, but the crossbar denied his second for the match.

The Flops

Debnath, Cavin Lobo and Chettri

Kingshuk Debnath made his debut in the team for the injured Franco, and was a dead stone. He hardly stopped Pearson from the wing and went on with his unnecessary tackles. The former Mohammedan player did very little for his team and was caught many times for his pace.

Cavin Lobo was the hero in the previous match for the Kolkata-based side but couldn’t reproduce the same form again. Lobo wasted a lot of balls by shooting unnecessarily and was left frustrated. The Goan was substituted for Rakesh Masih in the second-half.

Nirmal Chettri couldn’t exhibit his best today for the Kerala Blasters. The former East Bengal full-back was defeated for his pace against Jofre and completed a sloppy game for the visitors.
