Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes that despite the recent string of disappointing performances, his side can still put up a threat against a daunting Real Madrid, when the two sides face each other in the return leg of their group stage fixture in the Champions League at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday.

The Reds were torn apart by the La Liga outfit at the Anfield two weeks ago, where the English club went down 3-0 against Carlo Ancelotti’s side, losing their second consecutive Champions League fixture in three outings that put them third in the group standings and out of the qualification spot.

Liverpool are on the back of a disappointing 1-0 loss against Newcastle United in the Premier League, and despite their prospects of making it to the next round of the European tournament hanging in doubt, Rodgers insists his side are confident of putting up a good show against the reigning European champions in Spain tonight.

It’s a big week. We’re coming off the back of a disappointing result, but our confidence is high going into every game”, the Northern Irishman was quoted as saying by UEFA’S official website.

“We’re looking forward to the game – it’s an opportunity, not a threat. We’re in the hunt to qualify, it’s in our hands”, the 41-year-old continued.

We will respect our opponents – arguably the best side in the world at the moment – but we are also a quality outfit.”

Liverpool have a tough week of football ahead of them, as they return to England from the Champions League game to host Premier League’s table leaders Chelsea on Saturday.
