Chennaiyin FC manager Marco Materazzi is unfazed by his side’s lack of practice and insists that the team has a positive approach ahead of their top of the table clash with Atletico de Kolkata at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday.

With the pitch and the ground both being unavailable for pre-match training due to heavy rains in the Tamil Nadu capital, the teams will get out on match day without any prior knowledge on the main pitch’s behaviour, but the former Italian player insists he is not worried about that.

Currently second in the Indian Super League’s table, the Chennai side are just two points behind leaders Kolkata with a game in hand. They are on the back of a massive 5-1 win over Mumbai City FC and will be hoping to continue their winning form when they take on the Luis Garcia-led side, as three points tonight will take them to the top in the inaugural edition of the tournament.

And Materazzi is confident that the South Indian team has the potential to close this gap and outperform the West Bengal club.

“We are like Cinderella. We are in Chennai and every day rain. We did not have the pitch to train and the ground now. You saw the last game when we put our heart in the pitch”, the 41-year-old was quoted as saying by IBN.

“We wanted to win against Mumbai. If we show the same attitude on the pitch tomorrow and then we have to win. To me and my guys the positive result is very important.

“We try to play like how we played against Mumbai FC. Without doubt Kolkata is a very good team. We have a bigger opportunity to close the gap. Then after the game we will speak about the result you want”, the former Inter Milan defender added.
