Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is delighted to have led his side to the knockout stage of the Champions League once again, after the Gunners beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in the group stage last night.

Yaya Sanogo scored his first competitive goal for the English club when he netted the ball off a Santi Cazorla assist in the second minute setting the club off to a terrific start. Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez doubled their lead after the break ensuring that the North London outfit  bagged all three points, despite needing just one to qualify, and made it to the last 16 for the 11th consecutive time, while the German giants lost their first game in the group stage of the European tournament.

And Wenger is proud of the feat the club has managed to achieve, and while he is relieved to have gotten back to winning ways, after losing their last Premier League fixture 2-1 against Manchester United on Saturday, he insists that the team will be hoping to progress beyond this stage.

When you work in a football club you realise it’s not easy to be consistent, so I’m very proud of the qualification record”, the French manager was quoted as saying by UEFA’ s official website.

“I think also the club deserves a lot of credit. It’s not enough, we want more than that. What is important is that we are united.

“This team has a top-quality attitude and we have shown that today, after the disappointment of Saturday”, the 65-year-old added.

Arsenal will be looking to carry their Champions League form into the domestic league, in the hopes of climbing above from their current eighth spot in the standings, when they take on West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
