Group D : England vs Uruguay  – A do or die fixture !

Later today in Sao Paulo we will witness a clash between England and Uruguay. These two teams are fighting for their survival in the World Cup. England had lost their opening game 2-1 to the Italians and Uruguay had suffered a shock defeat in the hands of the Costa Ricans. A quick look at what and who might be key to these teams at tonight’s game.

Luis Suarez  vs Gary Cahill : The return of one of the World’s best strikers , Luis Suarez will certainly be a boost for the South American side. He will be able to provide them with creativity which they completely lacked in the previous game. Suarez being back in the side will also mean another quality finisher and a top notch free kick taker for the team. He will probably be marked by Gary Cahill in the English defense . Cahill had struggled  a bit in the game versus the Azzuri but is definitely a  fierce competitor who is more than capable of keeping Suarez at bay.

Martin Caceres vs Raheem Sterling : Sterling was easily the one guy who gave the World hope that England have changed their playing ways during the previous fixture versus Italy. England will also be relying on Sterling to produce plenty of chances and rule the right wing in today’s fixture with his pace and close control. Martin Caceres on the other hand is an experienced veteran who has been a regular fixture in the Uruguayan squad for a long time now. He is Uruguay’s best option to control Sterling and has proven himself useful going forward as well.

Diego Godin vs Wayne Rooney : Diego Godin , the Atletico Madrid centre back will be keenly watched today as he might be given the job of warding of Wayne Rooney. Godin had an excellent season with his club and would be expected to continue his good run of form  in this game. England’s biggest name this World Cup has been highly criticized for his performances in recent times especially after the game versus Italy. Rooney will definitely be waiting to prove his critics wrong and give it his all.

Apart from these guys, Uruguay also has the likes of Cavani and Cristian Rodriguez apart from the experienced Forlan to trouble the England back line. England will also be hoping that Steven Gerrard and players like Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge click in tonight’s game.  May the better team win !
