It has been quite a while since football has made an impression as a formidable sport in India, with it being the second most popular sport now and a growing number of youngsters continuing to join the bandwagon. But if we have ever wondered whether a little push in the right direction would take things up a few notches, the change is being fulfilled now.

Ever since it was announced that India won the bid to host the 17th FIFA U-17 World Cup for the year 2017, the football community and fandom is abuzz with excitement and anticipation for what is to come. This biennial international men’s youth football championship contested by the U17 national teams of the member associations of FIFA World Cup just might be the game changer that the country has been looking for, triggering a transformation of the amenities for football development. Football enthusiasts can now look forward to state of the art infrastructure, more opportunities for amateur and professional football players and a long overdue overall national recognition of the importance of Football across the country.

In fact, when Footieculture hosted the Bangalore Youth Football Cup (BYFC) 2017 this August, it was ablaze with the commitment towards youth football and marked a tribute to the young Indian Colts who will represent our nation in the FIFA U-17 World Cup, thereby making history on home soil.

Since the announcement was made of India playing host to the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2017, the whole country and especially the six host cities are all geared up for the upcoming bustle starting October 6th.  India, in this edition of the World cup find themselves in a rather tough group, Group A with the respective national teams of United States of America, Colombia and Ghana.

India’s first game is on the 6th of October, 2017 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi with the kick-off at 8pm.
