In what would be seen as a confidence booster, the India U-17 national team
ensured a draw with the Chile U-17 team in a 4-nation tournament in Mexico City. The team which
needed a good way to sign off after being battered 5-0 and 3-1 by Colombia and Mexico
respectively, saw them come back from going 1-0 down to salvage a 1-1 draw. Despite going a man
down minutes after restoring parity, India held on and earned the praise of the opposing coach
Hernan Caputto who felt that the team was competitive and would make the country proud.
The team which is still finding its feet under new coach Luis Morton de Natos will represent the
country in the U-17 World Cup to be held in India later this year. The team is scheduled to travel to
Australia next , but this is still under consideration after Morton raised concerns about the weather
conditions down under.
