Mumbai City FC goes past Delhi Dynamos to register a 1-0 victory over the visiting team. Nicolas Anelka scored the only goal of the match in 58th minute.

Mumbai City FC hosted Delhi Dynamos in a round 22 match at the DY Patil Stadium Mumbai. Mumbai City who had defeated Kerala Blasters in Mumbai last week started the game high on confidence. Delhi, on the other hand, drew their previous week encounter against NorthEast.

Delhi’s marquee signing Alessandro Del Piero did not feature in the starting lineup. Harm van Veldhoven made opted for a 4-4-2 formation from the beginning with Steven Dias and Mama on either of the wings. Souvik Ghosh and Bruno Arias featured in the midfield. Gustavo Dos Santos accompanied Mads Junker in the strike force. Mumbai’s game did not start on a very good note as captain Syed Rahim Nabi was jolted by a groin injury at the very beginning. Nabi was replaced by Peter Costa in the 9th minute mark. Delhi Dynamos enjoyed possession in the earlier stages. They exhibited great passing football and dominated in the midfield zone. Mumbai City, on the other hand, depended on counter attacks. As first half progressed, the Ranbir Kapoor owned franchise matched Delhi in number attacks. Andre Moritz played a stellar role in the attacking midfield position generating quality moves. Subhas Singh was guilty on several occasions of destroying moves or missing chances. Nicolas Anelka seemed out of options on several occasions due to Subhas’ poor show.

The second half started on a positive note as both the teams played attacking football. Delhi Dynamos continues with their passing football. In the 59th minute Nicolas Anelka gave Mumbai the lead. Subhas Singh ran down the wing dribbling past a Delhi defender and passed the ball to Anelka who finished it with ease. Mumbai took the control of the game just after the goal. They attacked more and created better chances. They should have scored 1 or 2 goals more but missed several chances. Del Piero was introduced van Veldhoven in the 60th minute. Del Piero showed his magic in few instances but lacked speed. He missed the easiest chance of the match when he failed to convert a header from Steven Dias’ floating cross.

Mumbai moved up to 3rd position in the league table with 9 points from 6 matches. Delhi on the other hand struggled at the 6th position with just 6 points from the same number of matches.
