Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger insists he does not regret letting Cesc Fabregas go to Chelsea in this summer’s transfer window.

The Spanish international joined Jose Mourinho’s side in June this year after spending three seasons with his childhood club Barcelona.

He had previously been an integral member of the Emirates Stadium outfit for almost eight years, before moving to Camp Nou in 2011, and as per the player’s contract, the Gunners’ coach had the chance of re-signing the 27-year-old, in case he decided to move away from La Liga.

But given the opportunity, Wenger decided to not bring back Fabregas to the North London club. And despite the player’s’ brilliant performance on the field for the Blues, where he has provided seven assists in seven league games so far, the French manager stands by his choice, insisting that Arsenal already has enough options in the midfield.

“I don’t regret not taking Cesc because we already had a lot of creative players in our midfield,” the 64-year-old told beIN Sports.

Currently eighth in the Premier League’s table, Arsenal are nine points behind leaders Chelsea. But Wenger, whose side have already played league games against Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur beside Chelsea and Everton, blames their difficult fixtures for lagging behind in the table and feels that this gap will be reduced in the coming months.

“Chelsea will also have a difficult period [in the season]. Our schedule was extremely difficult and I have the belief that we can close the gap to them”, he said.

Arsenal will be hoping to get back to winning ways and bag an important three points when they host Hull City on Saturday.
