Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers says that he takes full responsibility for the Reds’ dismal performance this season, after they lost 3-1 to Crystal Palace in their Premier League fixture last night.

The Merseyside club have been winless in their last seven outings across all tournaments, and suffered their sixth defeat in just 12 games in the league so far. Liverpool started on a bright note with Rickie Lambert putting them in the lead in the opening minutes at the Selhurst Park. But Dwight Gayle’s right footed shot in the 17th minute put both the sides on an equal footing at the end of the first half.

However, a Joe Ledley strike in the 78th minute, and Mile Jedinak converting a free kick just three minutes later saw Neil Warnock’s outfit claim all three points at home, as the Anfield based club  dropped to 12th in the league standings, 18 points behind leaders Chelsea.

And Rodgers feels that his team has no one but themselves to blame for their decline in performance, after being a title contender last year, and insists that he is ready to accept the blame for the poor results

We’ve got nobody to blame but ourselves. As manager, I take full responsibility for it. We aim to be tighter and more resolute defensively”, the Northern Irishman was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

We are obviously low on confidence at the moment in terms of the results and I think the intensity of our game just dropped right off.

“It’s my responsibility as the manager – I put the team out there. We go away bitterly disappointed and we have to very, very quickly put things right. We’ve got a massive game in the week”, the 41-year-old manager added.

Liverpool will be hoping to get back to winning ways when they host Stoke City in the English league on Saturday after their Champions League game against Bulgarian club Ludogorets Razgrad this Wednesday.
