The Stars

Mendoza, Elano and Anelka

Valencia Mendoza may have just played his best game for Chennaiyin FC in the tournament against Mumbai City. His pace and presence on the pitch was a nightmare for the away side as netted twice for his team. The Colombian forward was a live wire in this match and left the Mumbai City team in shambles with his electrifying pace.

Elano Blumer was once again a sublime performer for the host team. The Brazilian scored 2 goals yesterday and became the top scorer in the tourney with 5 strikes. The former Manchester City man yet again showed his goal-scoring ability by helping his side in achieving a thumping victory.

Nicolas Anelka made a long awaited debut for Mumbai City FC and was fair in his outing. The French star played a whole of 90 minutes and looked tired on some occasions. After Mumbai conceded 2 goals, Anelka didn’t hesitate to come in the midfield and supply balls in the forward. Sadly, his first game in Mumbai City colours will not be memorable as he had thought.

The Flops

Friedrich, Costa and Suarez

Manuel Friedrich was beaten in pace and looked in complete disarray for his team. The veteran German was a center figure in errors and Mendoza did take advantage for his lack of speed. It was a horrendous showing from the skipper and played a big part in Mumbai’s defeat.

Peter Costa’s poor showing for Mumbai FC continued. The right-back was spineless and was in discomfort throughout the game. He was seldom seen with the ball and had a mediocre game for Peter Reid’s team.

Jairo Suarez was an average player for Abhishek Bachchan’s team when compared to his team-mates. He wasn’t that flexible in the defensive area and got substituted in the second-half.
