Manchester United beat Burnley 3-1 at Old Trafford and returned to third place ahead of Southampton who could only draw against West Ham United.
Manchester United started well but were pegged back by a Burnley equaliser. Chris Smalling, who scored their 1st goal, gave United the lead once again and the Red Devils kicked on from there to score a third via a Robin Van Persie penalty to seal the game. Danny Ings was the goal scorer for Burnley.
