16 year old Rajib Roy has been selected for a two-week training period with European giants Manchester United along with few other teenagers from India. Rajib is from Kolkata, West Bengal, and is the son of a sex-worker.

At first glance, he looks like a Brazilian on the streets with his barefoot dribbling skills using a battered football. His inspiration is Chelsea’s playmaker Oscar who has similar roots as he rose from a poverty stricken childhood.

An elated Rajib said, “‘People keep asking me how it feels to be my mother’s son and then achieve something like this.

“I don’t know how to answer that question.

“But when my coach told me I had been selected by Manchester United it was like a father’s recognition,” he added.

The rise of Roy will hopefully make the Indian clubs stand up and take notice.
