Joint ISL owner of the Kolkata franchise, Sourav Gannguly, revealed that he has no intentions of making  a profit out of the upcoming ISL. Ganguly said, “Cricket is supported by corporate houses and the Board (BCCI). Football also needs support. A lot of people have said that football does not sell here. But we listen to our heart rather than anything else before taking the plunge.

“When we met at Sanjiv (Goenka)’s house two-three weeks ago, the first thing that Sanjiv asked Harsha (Neotia) was whether he was interested in putting money to lose. It’s like this even today. Yes, we have ideas about our franchise in the long run. It’s the start of something which, hopefully somewhere down the line, we will be able to make it big. But we are not looking at it from a business perspective purely,” he added.

The Kolkata franchise will be owned by Ganguly, along with business tycoons Harshvardhan Neotia, Sanjiv Goenka and Utsav Parekh, and technical support from current La Liga table toppers Atletico Madrid.
