The flying dutchman, Robin Van Persie, scored a hatrick as Manchester United made a dramatic turnaround and progressed to the next round of the UEFA Champions League.Everybody knew it was going to be tough, but nobody expected it to be this bad. Manchester United’s league position is something they have never been in. The last home defeat to Liverpool would have left most fans convinced that Manchester United were all but lost in spirit. But if there is one thing in football you have learnt, it is never to write off the Red Devils.

Going in 2-0 down on aggregate, Old Trafford saw one of the most magical European nights as the Red Devils took the game by the scruff of the neck and progressed to the next round of the UEFA Champions League. And who better to give them this boost than their talisman, RVP.

Van Persie won and converted the penalty (firing the ball to Roberto’s left) that gave United the lead on 25 minutes. He was similarly clinical and composed in first-half injury time when he side-footed Wayne Rooney’s low cross through the goalkeeper’s legs from close range. The hat-trick came via a free-kick, hit past the wall rather than over or around it, to complete a memorable treble.
