Former Italy national team coach Marcello Lippi has decided to retire from football management. Lippi, who was in charge of Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande, announced his decision after guiding the club to their third successive league title.

He said, “I don’t want to coach anymore, I’m too old. Guangzhou Evergrande will have a new coach next season.”

The Italian manager had successful managerial career, winning FIFA World Cup in 2006 with Italy, UEFA Champions league and 5 Seria A titles with Juventus. Lippi had also managed top tier Italian clubs like, Napoli, Inter Milan, Atlanta etc.

Although he will retire from football management, Lippi said he will take over as technical director at Guangzhou, with his former pupil and Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro among the favourites to replace him as coach of the 2013 AFC Champions League winners.
