Spain and Chile last faced each other in an International Friendly in held in Geneva in 2013. Chile got off to a brilliant start with Eduardo Vargas scoring after just 5 minutes into the match. Roberto Soldado equalized later on but another Vargas goal just before the 2nd half time and the relentless pressure applied by the Chilean defence made things very difficult for Spain. Finally, Jesus Navas scored in the 90th minute to save Spain blushes a grab a late draw.

Friendly 2011
Held at the AFG Arena in Switzerland in 2011, Chile were off to a blinder with Mauricio Isla and Eduardo Vargas both scoring in the first half to take 2 -0 lead into the interval. But Spain roared back with two 2nd half goals by Andrés Iniesta and Cesc Fàbregas. The game should have ended 2-2, but Álvaro Arbeloa simulated a foul in the penalty box, and successfully tricked the referee into calling a penalty. Cesc missed the spot kick, but slotted away a lucky rebound to win the match for Spain. Infuriated by the wrong decision, some of the Chilean players barked insults at the Spaniards, who reacted by shove-punching. Mayhem ensued and gave the entertaining match an ugly end.

World Cup 2010
The two sides were also drawn in the same Group H at the World Cup 2010, and faced off at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium, Pretoria. Spain looked the largely dominant side from the start with David Villla and Andres Iniesta scoring in the first half itself to ensure a 2-0 lead. Then Chile manager Marcelo Bielsa looked down and out, but Super Sub Rodrigo Millar bought on at the interval scored very early into the 2nd half to bring Chile back into the game briefly. But Spain, controlling the flow of the game saw out the win, ensuring themselves a spot in the next round.

Friendly 2008
When Spain faced Chile at the Estadio El Madrigal in Villareal in 2008, it turned out to be a relatively easy fixture for the Spaniards. Spain took the lead in the first half with David Villa dispatching off a penalty. Two 2nd half substitutes, Santi Cazorla(on for Marcos Senna) and Fernando Torres(on for Villa) scored later in the 2nd half to ensure a comprehensive victory against the Chileans.
