The Stars

Hume, Hengbart and Trezguet

Iain Hume was once again the star man for the Kerala Blasters. Hume didn’t scored today but created the winning goal for Orji with a delightful pass. The Canadian operated from the right wing after Milagres entered the field in the first half and was crisp with his crosses showing his complete versatility.

Cedric Hengbart held a solid defensive line with his partner Colin Falvey. The French full-back intercepted a flurry of long balls and showed vigilance while defending. His interceptions were absolutely clean and also paved the way for Sabeeth’s first goal against Pune City FC. His tight defending in the second-half was one of the reasons for Kerala’s first win in the ISL.

David Trezguet shined again for the hosts despite having limited opportunities. He scored in the first-half with a thunderous half volley which gave the shot-stopper James no chance. The Frenchman looked in song today but couldn’t help his side by notching up a win.

The Flops

Ashutosh, Ravanan and Nirmal

Ashutosh Mehta’s outing against Kerala Blasters was poor. He played as a right winger for the hosts and didn’t trouble Kerala Blasters at all. Mehta wasted a clear-cut chance in the penalty area after he mistimed a volley. Overall, the former Mumbai FC player was below average with his game.

Dharmaraj Ravanan too was a player without spark. He was short of pace and couldn’t mix up well with Ashutosh in the right-flank. The former Mahindra United player lacked overlapping runs, completing a dry game for the hosts.

Nirmal Chettri yet again showed defensive lapses in the right flank for Kerala Blasters. He was easily beaten in pace and couldn’t break the link-up play of Maity and Sarkar. The former East Bengal player hasn’t been at his best till now for David James’s side.
