Wim Koevermans has resigned as Indian football team’s coach after a run of poor results. The team has struggled to find any sort of consistency in the recent weeks and were beaten by Palestine yesterday.

Koevermans revealed in the post-match presentation, “This was my last match as the coach of the national team.
“And I will not be taking up the post of AIFF’s Technical Director for private reasons.”

The Dutchman was given a guard of honour after the game finished which he was grateful for, “I have thoroughly enjoyed my stint and stay in India. It was a nice gesture by the players.”

Koevermans was supposed to take up the role of AIFF’s technical director but has decided to change his decision following a difficult spell.

Captain Sunil Chhetri spoke some words of gratitude, “He came across as someone who was a rare combination of being very knowledgeable and hard working at the same time.
“It’s always been a pleasure working under him. The news came as a shock for me and I wish him luck for all his future endeavours.”
